Refinery-ready biocrude for today’s infrastructure

Alder develops technology that converts abundant, domestic biomass into biocrude oils compatible with today’s refining infrastructure. Alder is uniquely positioned to enable existing refineries to produce advanced fuels, chemicals, and carbon materials at a fraction of the capital and operating cost.

The Problem

Limited Domestic Feedstock for Refining

Growing demand for advanced fuels and carbon products is outpacing domestic supply.

The Result

Supply constraints, higher costs, and stalled projects.

Limited domestic feedstock
Existing waste oils and fats are constrained and increasingly expensive as demand grows.
Expanding supply vs. demand gap
Aviation, marine, and other strategic carbon markets require scalable, infrastructure-compatible solutions.
High capital costs stunt projects
New facilities require significant capital, while existing refinery infrastructure remains underutilized.

The Solution

Alder Unlocks a New Supply Chain

Meet current & future biocrude oil supply needs. No billion-dollar refinery conversion

Use abundant, domestic biomass
‍
Utilize wood residues and energy crops that are readily available

Cost leader that can scale
High efficiency and low cost of production outperform alternative technologies

Minimal refinery investment
Leverage existing equipment to expand production & realize economies of scale

Strategic Partners

We work with industry, government, and academics to accelerate our technology commercialization

Recent Highlights

Building momentum with technology validation, strategic partnerships, and new projects

Alder Selected for Shell GameChanger Accelerator

Alder has been selected for the Shell GameChanger Accelerator, powered by the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR). This collaboration brings together Shell’s refining expertise and NLR’s research capabilities to independently validate Alder Renewable Crude, advance integration with existing petroleum refineries, and accelerate commercialization of lower-carbon transportation fuels from biomass residues.

Scaling with Existing Refinery Infrastructure

Alder, BASF, National Laboratory of the Rockies, and North Atlantic Refining co-authored a new Hydrocarbon Processing article on coprocessing Alder Renewable Crude in fluid catalytic crackers. The work highlights a practical pathway to produce renewable fuels by integrating ARC into existing refinery FCC units, with improved handling, storage stability, and strong product yields.

Alder SAF100: 100% Biogenic Jet Fuel

Alder SAF100 demonstrated a 100% biogenic jet-fuel blend using hydrotreated Alder Renewable Crude (ARC) as the majority component with a smaller share of HEFA-SAF. Testing showed favorable energy density and low-temperature properties, highlighting the potential for ARC-derived hydrocarbons to support next-generation SAF production.
